Marketing
I just saw how long it’s been since I’ve written a post. This is bad. When you have a product you’re trying to get out into the world – like my book – you have to GET IT OUT INTO THE WORLD. It’s one of the easiest principles of Marketing.
The funny thing is, it’s due to Marketing that I don’t have time to market. Let that one sink in.
One of the classes I’m taking this semester is Internet Marketing. It’s part of my degree andwill be uber-helpful on my journey as a self-published author. Unfortunately the homework load is outstanding. Not necessarily just for this class but as a whole between my three classes. I get burned out and stare at Doctor Who for hours instead of doing what needs to be done.
This has led me to point number four on how not to self-publish – let yourself get overwhelmed. Yes, I’m busy. I have a full time job, a family, and I go to school full-time. Getting overwhelmed is easy. Letting myself fall into that OH MY GAWD THERE’S TOO MUCH TO DO trap is easy. But publishing isn’t easy. Marketing isn’t easy. If they were, everyone would be doing them.
I have vowed to spend at least thirty minutes every other day on Marketing. A blog post here, a tweet of a link to Amazon there, maybe even schedule a small blog tour for the holidays. Nothing huge but something to get people to interact with me.
