80 Day Obsession Round 1 Results!

When I had my two younger boys, I thought my days of having a flat stomach were over. I’d become sedentary. I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without sounding like Darth Vader. My self-confidence was shot. I fell into the trap of thinking, “Well, I’m already over-weight. Might as well annihilate this cake!”

My husband convinced me to start running* in the spring of 2016. We found a 5K in 8 Weeks program that included walk/run intervals to ease me back into exercise.

I was so out of shape, that my muscles seized after running for three minutes. That’s it. Three minutes. I ended up in a ball in the pool at the Y, bawling because my legs wouldn’t stop hurting.

A year later, I started going to my husband’s bootcamp at the Y and running again. My youngest was about four months old, and I still looked pregnant. I was determined to stop moping and do something something about it. Unfortunately, the Y my husband worked at was an hour away. I only made the class once a week, and didn’t have the motivation to go to a class closer on my own.

Then a friend messaged me and asked if I wanted to join Beachbody. I’d been sharing my struggles with running and working out online, and she thought I’d be able to reach people with my story. I was fed-up, desperate, and in need of something to keep me focused on my health. 

Enter 80 Day Obsession

Week 1The picture on the far left was taken two months after I joined Beachbody. I’d been following the portion fix system for about a month, but not sticking with a particular program. I sampled Clean Week, 21 Day Fix, Shaun Week, and Core de Force, and loved them all.

It wasn’t until 80 Day Obsession, though, that I really started to focus. I never skipped a workout. I followed the timed nutrition as closely as possible. You can’t tell from my facial expression in the picture, but I was happier, more productive, and was starting to feel comfortable in my own skin again.

Day 40

Day 40 was when the changes really started to be noticeable. My clothes were looser (except in the arms), the cellulite I’d accumulated after years of being a couch potato started disappearing. My back and arms looked like they belonged on some badass warrior.

I was feeling so pumped I dyed my hair purple.

When you start to take care of yourself, fuel your body instead of treat it like a trash can, and get your endorphins flowing, your whole mindset changes. I went from being a stay-at-home mom with low self-confidence to someone who could proudly rock bright Look-at-Me hair again.

Front ProgressI’m most proud of this set of pictures. Prior to this picture being taken, it had been four years since I’d worn a swimsuit without dying a little on the inside. My face thinned out. My arms were toned. I had abs for the first time ever! 

The first thing my husband commented on wasn’t my body though. It was my demeanor.

When you’re depressed and unhappy with your body, people can tell. I was less social, quicker to snap, and not pleasant to be around.

Once I got that self-confidence back, things changed. I know this is trite, but I walked with my head held high. I didn’t dread leaving the house. One small decision – the decision to try this program – completely changed my life.

Now what?

Two weeks into my second round, I found out I was pregnant. This is the end of the road for me and 80 Day Obsession until next year. 

I’m still running challenge groups monthly for new people who sign up with the program. In fact, Beachbody has partnered with The Today Show to start a huge challenge group starting June 4th called Obsessed with Today. Participants must follow the workout plan and timed nutrition to participate, and the producers of the TV show will be scouting the group for results.

*I’m being kind when I say I ran. In order to be categorized as running, one foot has to be off the ground at all times. This was not the case for me. It was more of a labored walk a la something from a George Romero movie.
