Personal Demons by Stacia Kane

Okay, I’ve been bitching about it taking me so long to read books lately–weeks folks, not days, weeks–but last night the most magical thing happened–I finished a book in a day and a half! It would have been less if I didn’t have a birthday lunch and dinner to go to.

What was this magical book? Personal Demons by Stacia Kane!! Before I get into the hows and whys of yet another obsession with a series, I want to list the back flap info. I’m horrible about not discussing what the book is actually about opposed to what I feel about it because hey, the world revolves around me, right? Right…

I actually bought this book a few weeks ago but have been putting it off. New authors have really been disappointing me until recently. Jeaniene Frost and Jocelynn Drakehave saved the day, giving me hope and the guts to crack open a book by an author I’ve never read. Not that’s its any fault of the other authors–I’m very picky–I want sweet lovin‘ and rotting corpses. Both. Not one or the other dammit! But preferably not rotting corpses making sweet lovin‘. I don’t need to read about any “members” falling off in the act.

Anyway, back to Stacia Kane…

As for the plot…there were just a few things that bothered me that I’m sure will either fall to the wayside–which is acceptable in my eyes for the first book in a series as long as it isn’t HUGE–or will be further explained in an upcoming book, like Demon Inside, the second book in the series.

Number 1: Megan, the protagonist, makes a comment regarding why she all of a sudden can sense more things psychically than before. Like how Art, the creepy Fearbusters counselor, feels like the epitome of all that is evil on one page but in a scene beforehand just felt kind of creepy. There wasn’t an explanation really, if being close to Greyson, her demon lover, was amplifying her abilities or if it was something else.

Number 2: What the fuck does bryaela mean?? I googled it and only came up with a sneak-peak of the second book in the series. But it’s absolutely killing me! Not in a bad way, don’t get me wrong, I just think it’s going to be a major plot point and I WANT TO KNOW NOW because I’m very impatient. Greyson calls Megan this a few times near the end of the book, but only after they hit a new level in their relationship and right before their lives are in danger. When she asks what it means, he plays it off like it’s just another endearment like “darling”. But I know better! And if I’m wrong, that I’m going to be very disappointed on the inside. May even cry a little.

Number 3: Did Greyson know that Tera, the beautiful and slightly anti-social witch, was the blonde he sent the drunk girl after, or was it dumb luck? Hmm? Hmm?

I’m very excited to see how this series pans out. I believe Devil Inside comes out in January 2009. Dammit, I hate being so impatient!!
