Delectable, Healthy Recipes for the 4th of July!

Independence Day. The 4th of July. The day Bill Pullman outshone every president in American history. Whatever you call it, it is HERE!

Holidays are always a touchy time for people trying to clean up their diet because so many people post reminders about staying on track or how to avoid the food table at parties.

Not this lady! I give you permission to live your best life ESPECIALLY on the 4th of July!

That doesn’t mean dive onto the food table and start pouring bowls of baked beans and potato salad into your mouth as your family and friends stare in horror. It means don’t be afraid to enjoy yourself!

One day isn’t going to kill you if you don’t let it. DON’T STRESS ABOUT FOOD!

Here are some tips to help you navigate the 4th of July – and all holidays, really – without losing your mind:

  1. Eat normally before you socialize. Don’t “save your calories” for when you get to the party. That leads to disordered eating, and will stop you from making good choices. If you show up having eaten throughout the day, you might grab a cookie and a handful of chips. If you show up starving, you’re guaranteed to go mental on the entire sleeve of chewy, chocolatey goodness.
  2. Drink lots of water. Yes, you’ll probably be imbibing throughout the night, but making sure you’re hydrated will help your body process the extra sugar from those drinks.
  3. Understand that you don’t HAVE to overeat just because it’s a holiday. Grab a plate. Fill it with the foods you love – and some healthier options – then wait 15 – 20 minutes before going back for seconds. You may not even be hungry enough once you let your body process what you’ve already eaten.
  4. Also understand that you DON’T HAVE TO EARN YOUR FOOD. Ignore the memes stating, “Do 4 jumping jacks for every cookie you ate! 2 burpees for every beer!” Unless you want to, of course, then go on with your weird self!
