REVIEW: Powerless by Elsie Silver

“The sky is blue. The grass is green. And I’ve loved Jasper Gervais from the first day I laid eyes on him.”

Sloane knew Jasper was it for her the moment she saw him when they were kids. Her uncle adopted him after a tragedy left him without a family, but she didn’t let that stop her from obsessing over him. Eventually, they became best friends who were always there for each other, even though Sloane always wished they become more. She thought Jasper had made it clear they’d never cross that line, so she took what she could from their relationship and eventually moved on, thinking she’d never have her true love.

Powerless by Elsie Silver was like a love song to every little girl who’d ever pined for the love of her life. Sloane’s pining was poignant and the flashbacks to her childhood with Jasper made me tear up on more than one occasion. Silver wove their previous insecurities into their adult characters which made them seem to jump off the pages.

And Jasper…hoo-boy. Let’s just say I’ve never clutched my heart over a tattoo before this book. He was such a well-rounded character with little hints here and there that he’d had feelings for Sloane as well but wasn’t willing or ready to think about them…until he was and then he went full throttle without looking back. The shower scene will forever be etched in my brain for both the spicy and the pure “aw” factor since he FINALLY decided to break down the barriers between them.

I haven’t read any other books by this author, but I’ll be sure to rectify that immediately!

Favorite quote: “We’re us. Unlikely and inevitable all at once. We’re forever.”
